Hi... My 11 year old son and I are currently restoring a 1966 Moto Ski Capri. It's a fun project, and the sled is
free of rot, and has a good gas tank! I tried to attached a few pictures of it, but the site won't currently let me upload pictures.I will post some as soon as I can. Forgive me if this is the wrong area to ask this question...But I was wondering if anyone can tell me about the bolt that goes through the ski post bracket & ski post. I have removed the nut & washer on this bolt, but because the other end of the bolt is rounded (no hex head)...I can't figure out exactly how it comes out? I think... it is just like a threaded pin... but I have wacked it with a brass rod & mallet... and it won't budge. Before I broke something..I figured it was time to ask those who know... Forgive me for being naive, this is our first snowmobile restoration, just learning! Thank you! -Wolfe |

I've not had the chance to work on an old Moto-Ski.
The bolt sounds like it can come out.
Why else would there be a nut on the other side?
I'm not an expert on this so keep hunting.
I'm better with tech. or spec. questions I can find in some of my manuals.
How much liquid wrench for penetration have you used so far? _________________ Mark (mach9)

Hi Mark... thanks for the reply. I know the bolts do come out, otherwise the ski posts could not be removed. I have used plenty of penetrating oil, as well as heat... I think they are both just jammed in place solid... since '66! And they'll just require some (gentle) force... to get them out. I've attached pics of the sled, and of the bolt(s) I am talking about. I have to leave for a business trip in the morning, driving from NH to Chicago, I will reply upon my return. I appreciate the help...-Wolfe

If it can fit.
I've seen guys take a bench vice off the bench to make it portable and then press stuff out.
That bolt may be some concern with no head, but I'm not sure. _________________ Mark (mach9)

Hi Mark... I was thinking something similar... press it out somehow... the bolt was factory made w/o a hex head... that's what makes me believe it is a pin...looks to be tapered too... thanks!
